Funky Panyu: Art & History

Explore the beautiful southern Panyu district on our ALL NEW 'Funky Panyu: Art & History' cycle adventure on Saturday 27 November 2021!

On this full-day trip you start in the morning in the ancient village of Shawan, where you explore the maze of alleyways, family temples, art galleries and oyster shell houses. Meet a famous local wood carver and water painter who gives a demonstration of these traditional arts. Sit down for a luxurious lunch in an old ancestral home, and enjoy the local delicacies.

After lunch you hop on our retro ‘Phoenix’ bicycles and leave the busy village for the rural areas. Ride past rivers, farms, fish ponds and factories, and find your way to the Baomo Garden. Visit the famous site that was once the luxurious residence of Mr. Bao, a prime minister in the late Qing dynasty. Soak up on fengshui among the lakes, Lingnan bridges, waterfalls, and large collection of antiques. Continue the ride through Zini village to end up at the Zinitang industrial park. The sugar plant has given way to a museum, coffee shops, restaurants, art installations and lots of graffiti and murals. When we look across the river, we see Shunde in Foshan and realize we reached the very edge of Guangzhou.

GO LOCAL

Ride on China’s classical Fenghuang ('Phoenix') bicycles. These are what Katie Melua refers to when she sings about "nine million bicycles in Beijing". We replaced most parts for increased safety and comfort, while retaining its famous look. The locals will be giving you jealous looks!
We have done, and continue doing, extensive research into the Guangzhou's past, present and future. Besides the dozens of books, magazines, and articles we went through, many of the stories we learned from talking to the locals on the streets along our route. The stories we share with you, are the real folk stories that cannot be found in travel guides! Furthermore, we share old pictures of the places we visit, showing you the immense change of this thriving city! Along the tours we provide you with water and local snacks
